Africa 09
October 21st, 2009

Yo folks,
Unbelievable, but I was a second time in Africa this year (after March’s trip to South Africa for Sara and David’s wedding), this time because of a talk I had to give at the Africon ‘09 in Nairobi. I took the chance to be so close and let my girlfriend and my brother catch [...]

Zakynthos
October 21st, 2009

Long time, no write… It’s been a while - and meanwhile I was a week in Zakynthos, Greece, of which I add my first photo today. It was taken from the Keri Lighthouse Tavern at the westcoast of the island, which has marvellous views and quite a good Nespresso frappĂ© (I haven’t tried food there).

Last Days in the US
June 12th, 2009

Yo,
The last days of my visit to the US, I spent in Park City (which is close to Salt Lake City) attending the Annual Meeting of the Jean Piaget Society. Salt Lake City is famous for being the center of the “Mormons” (see photo 1). Park City, on the other hand, you might remember from [...]

Utah/Arizona/Nevada Tour Day 9: Hike-Up, Route 66, Las Vegas
June 5th, 2009

Yo,
Finally, we get “Nevada” into the title of this blog-series…
If Monday was THE very day of cool hiking, than Tuesday was THE very day of exhausting hiking…. The way up from Phantom Ranch back to the South Rim took me 7 hours (as opposed to 3 hours down), mainly because the path is quite uncomfortable [...]

Utah/Arizona Tour Day 8: Phantom Ranch
June 5th, 2009

Hi,
Monday was THE very day of cool hiking. At noon, I decided to hike down the Grand Canyon (a decision that I nearly regretted the next day), in order to spend the night at the “Phantom Ranch” deep down next to the Colorado river. I must tell you that was impressive. They get all their [...]

Utah/Arizona Tour Day 7: Bryce and GC’s North Rim
June 5th, 2009

Hi,
Sunday, I visited Bryce National Park (see photo 1), and drove down (that’s quite some drive…) to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, thus entering Arizona for the second time. Again, weather was not perfect, raining every now and then, therefore I decided that South Rim is better for hiking (see next post), however, [...]

Utah/Arizona Tour Day 6: The Wave and The Narrows
June 5th, 2009

Yo,
As announced in the previous blog, Saturday was the “Wave”-Day - see photo 1. It’s hard to get a permit, but if you’re lucky (as I was, see last post), you’re able to win one out of 10 on the day before at the Ranger Station nearby (or 1 of the other 10 about 5 [...]

Utah/Arizona-Tour Day 5: Antelope Canyon and Zion National Park
June 5th, 2009

Yo,
Quite late, I have to admit, I’m posting the next and final days of my Utah/Arizona/Nevada (as it will turn out to) tour. On Friday, the highly improbable happened: I won a permit in the “permit lottery” for the Coyote Buttes, where “The Wave” is located - this meant that I was one out of [...]

Utah Tour Day 4: Utah->Arizona
May 29th, 2009

Yo!
On Thursday, I visited the “Needles” District of Canyonlands National Park (see photo 1 for a shot I took on the way to “Chesler Park” - very recommendable!) and the “Monument Valley”, which is actually already in Arizona (see photo 2). The monument valley has become famous for it’s being THE very place to film [...]

Utah Tour Day 3: THAT is mountainbiking
May 29th, 2009

Yo folks!
This is the follow-up to my last 2 posts. On Wednesday, early in the morning (ok, it was about 8:30…), I started THE VERY mountainbike-tour you can think of. Considered as the hardest of their trails, the “slickrock trail” is a MUST for bikers. And yes, I can confirm: You haven’t been truly mountainbiked [...]
